Confidence can play a vital role in your success. Unfortunately, this is an area that many people struggle in. It seems to be easier for people to tear themselves down than build themselves up.
I know I have struggled with it in the past and still have times where I struggle with it. If you asked me a few years ago about having my own blog I would have said no way. I just didn’t have the confidence years ago, so I wouldn’t have thought that I could actually do it or that anyone would care what I had to say. Or more so, that what I had to offer would help people reach their goals.
But now, I am confident I can!
Many people believe that self-confidence is either something you have or don’t. If that is the mind set you have, we are going to change that.
It is something you can learn. You can improve and build upon what you already have.
And this can make a huge difference in reaching your ultimate goals.
In order to really understand how you can improve your self-confidence, you need to know what it is. Merriam-Webster defines confidence as “a feeling or consciousness of one’s powers or of reliance on one’s circumstances.”
You feel good about what you are doing. You know it is right and do not have any doubts about you or what you’re doing.
For example, think back when you were in school and you took a test you were not prepared for. That feeling of not believing in your abilities to do well on the test was a lack of confidence.
On the other hand, think of a job interview you went into knowing you were going to get the job because you were perfect for it. You probably felt that you answered all their questions flawlessly. Now that feeling, of believing in yourself and your abilities, is having confidence.
How Confidence Impacts Your Life
Having self-confidence can really change your life. Yes, your whole life. Not just in the areas of health and fitness.
That might sound crazy but it’s true.
If you feel like you can do anything, your odds of doing it successfully just went WAY up.
Once you realize this and see it firsthand, I promise you are going to want to continue to grow your confidence.
When you feel like you know what you are doing you present yourself differently. You are subconsciously telling people that you got this!
It makes you come off as a more charismatic person, so what you are saying or doing is more compelling.
Think for a second a time when you have been to the doctor and they are explaining a surgery they are going to be preforming. Now you might not understand everything they are saying but you know they know what you are talking about. They are confident in what they are doing so it is easy for you to trust them.
Now consider how differently you would feel about that doctor if they stumbled over everything they said, and it seemed like they didn’t know what they were talking about? You for sure wouldn’t want them doing your surgery.
Those same concepts apply to you in every area of your life.
You will be surprised how much of your life will be improved once you start to work on building up your confidence.
It will help you to have better, stronger relationships because the will confidence energizes you and make you more determined than even.
And showing that attitude in your relationships will show others how important it is to build theirs. This can mean a lot if you have children, nieces/nephews, or grandchildren that look up to you. You will be teaching them how to become the best version of themselves. And who wouldn’t want that.
It will also help you to overcome any challenges you come up against. Imagine having the feeling of knowing whatever happens, money problems, health issues, relationship struggles, you can overcome it and be even stronger than before.
Health & Fitness
Health and fitness falls under your personal life, but I feel we should talk about it separate because it is such a big part of your life.
Your health and fitness goals can be much easier to reach if you are more self-assured. If you go to the gym and feel awkward all the time or have the mindset that you just can’t lose weight or stick to healthy eating, then unfortunately you probably won’t reach your goals.
But if you build your confidence, you can walk into that gym knowing you are going to have a great workout and not care what anyone else there thinks.
That self-confidence will also help you to really work on losing those extra pounds or help you stick to making those healthier choices.
When you tell yourself you can do it, you can do it!
That confidence will spill into your work life as well. It will help boost your performance.
You are more likely to push yourself to accomplish more if you like what you do.
If you are looking to get a raise or new job, this new attitude can greatly increase your chances.
I am sure you know what you are doing in your position and are probably really good at it. And if you are looking at getting a new job, you might be perfectly qualified for it. But the problem comes in when you can’t convey how great you are.
Being self-assured will help you to show this.
How to Boost Confidence
Now that you understand what confidence is and how it can impact your life, let’s get to what you can do to boost your confidence.
As I said before, you can always work on your confidence. And it is something you should continuously work on.
The power of positive thinking is amazing. It is also something that is very easy to do and can help really boost your confidence.
To practice positive thinking, you need to start by being conscious of your thoughts.
When you have a negative thought, such as “I can’t do this,” you stop and change that thought into something positive, like, “I can do this.”
This helps to rewire your brain from the “I can’t” to the “I can”. So eventually the first thought you have is the “I can”.
Tying in with the positive thinking is positive self-talk. This also helps you to rewire your brain, so your first thoughts are always positive.
Self-talk is when you talk supportive to yourself, either out loud or in your head.
You use phrases that reinforce to you that you are proud of the person you are, you are worthwhile, and a quality person.
There are many great books out there that teach you how to use self-talk. I really enjoyed the book, What to Say When You Talk to Yourself.
It really helps to explain why you talk to yourself the way you do and helps you to change those thoughts, so they are positive and work for you.
You deserve to live at your best and to receive the best from the life you live.
Using quotes that can remind you to be confident can really help as well. I learned of some fantastic quotes recently from Mandy at Movica (more on her in a minute).
These quotes come from the book The Confident Woman Devotional. I highly recommend this book as well.
Using quotes like these throughout the day can help you to keep your confidence up throughout the day.
It is great to read one in the morning to start your day off on the right foot. If you start to feel like you are getting down at any point during the day, you can pull out another quote to get you back on track.
“Confident people do not focus on their weaknesses; they develop and maximize their strengths.” Joyce Meyer
Appearance and Confidence
Boosting your confidence can be done by working on your appearance. What I mean by this is dressing nice and being well groomed.
When we look good, we feel good. It might seem a little vain, but it actually works.
Just think of a time you got a new haircut or bought a new outfit that you loved. How did you feel? Probably pretty confident. It isn’t something you really think about, but it does change your attitude.
And when you have a beautician that truly wants to enhance your confidence, the results are amazing.
I am very fortunate because I have that. And I am going to share her with all of you! I mentioned her earlier, Mandy at Movica.
Mandy at Movica
She is one of those people that truly loves helping people to feel at their best. She is someone that enhances your natural beauty, rather than covering everything up.
Mandy has a way of making you feel your best and most beautiful just the way you are.
She provides customized solutions for everyone depending on their skin type and what they are looking for. She can personally make customized makeup, such as liquid and powder foundation, blush/bronzers, eye shadow, lip colors, primer, and many other products.
Mandy can “customize skincare with being able to mix and match from four different lines to meet any need or target certain skin ailments! I can customize certain beauty from the inside out products to help with deeper issues that could be coming from what’s going on in your system to help with the problems on the outside!”
And what I really love is that you can do a custom consult with Mandy to find what products would fit best for your wants and needs.
I am not a huge makeup person, but I do like to use it to boost my confidence. However, I do not know a whole lot about makeup. Being able to do a custom consult and ask questions without feeling stupid means a lot to me.
It is also great to be able to get makeup that is made for you and fits you personally. So, if you are someone that likes a more natural look, like me, or you are bolder, Mandy can find your perfect fit!
And remember, you are attractive and because you are attractive, you attract the best in everything around you.
